– Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev arrived inthe Philippines on November 12 to attend the 31st ASEAN Summit (ASEAN-31) andrelated meetings, and the 12th East Asia Summit (EAS) in Manila.

At the EAS, Russia will put forth an initiative in the area of fighting terrorismand terrorism ideology spread. It’s necessary to further promote consultationslaunched earlier on regional security issues. according to the RussianGovernment’s spokesperson.

Russia aims at an efficient cooperation with all EAS partners, promoting the agendato maintain peace and security as well as stable and sustainable development ofthe Asian-Pacific region.

The country considers EAS a key platform for dealing with the establishment of atransparent, open and comprehensive system based on respect for adherence tointernational law, mutual trust, and peaceful settlement of disputes without resortingto the threat or use of force in the Asia-Pacific region.

Russia also highly values prospects in deepening cooperation with regionalcountries for socio-economic development of Russia’s East Siberia and Far Easternregion.

The East Asia Summit has been held annually since 2005 as a high-leveldiscussion of leaders of nations in the Asia-Pacific region on a wide range ofregional and global issues.

The EAS brings together ten members of ASEAN(Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippine, Singapore,Thailand and Vietnam), Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, NewZealand, Russia, and the US.-VNA
