Romanian PM chairs welcome ceremony for Vietnamese counterpart in Bucharest

Bucharest (VNA) – Romanian PrimeMinister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu chaired a welcome ceremony in Bucharest on January22 morning (local time) for Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who is in the country for an official visit.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders held talks at the Victoria Palace.
The visit, the first delegation exchange at theprime ministerial level between the two countries in five years, is takingplace in the context of good development of the nearly-75-year-old Vietnam -Romania traditional ties and cooperation.
During his stay in Romania, PM Chinh will hold talksand have meetings with the Prime Minister, the President, the President of theSenate and the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania.
He will visit some Romanian localities anduniversities, attend the Vietnam – Romania business forum, receiverepresentatives from the Romania – Vietnam Friendship Association, and meetstaff at the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the country.
The visit aims at deepening the traditionalfriendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, creating newdriving forces to bolster bilateral collaboration across the fields ofRomania’s strengths and in line with Vietnam’s development needs such asagriculture, processing and manufacturing, and health care.
Besides, it isexpected to strengthen business cooperation and lure investment in potentialfields, contributing to boosting the Vietnam – European Union ties.
Romania was one of the first 10 countries in the world to recognise and establish diplomatic ties with Vietnam.
While holding the rotating presidency of the EU, Romaniaworked to push ahead with the negotiation and signing of the EU-Vietnam FreeTrade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement(EVIPA).
The two-way trade hit 425 million USD in 2022. As ofthe end of that year, Romania had five valid projects with total registered capitalof 1.56 million USD, ranking 42nd among the 143 countries and territoriesinvesting in Vietnam./.
Vietnam and Romania enjoy traditional friendship and cooperation with a rich history spanning 74 years (1950-2024). Bilateral relations are developing in all fields, including politics, diplomacy, economics, security and defence, culture, and education and training.
The official visit to Romania by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to open up a new, substantive and intensive chapter for the long-standing diplomatic ties between the two countries, Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila has said.
The upcoming visit to Romania by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation is expected to open up new prospects for bilateral economic, trade and investment ties to develop to a greater height.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Romania from January 20-22 affirms Vietnam’s wish to continue promoting and deepening its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with the European country, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to Romania Do Duc Thanh.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Long spoke highly of the dynamic, positive, and comprehensive development of Vietnam – Russia relations in recent years. He affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State place great importance on further strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia in a substantive and effective manner, in line with the development needs of both nations.
At the conference, participants reported that the Government has so far issued 28 decrees on the delegation of responsibilities and powers between the central Government and two-tier local administrations. Several localities have already piloted the new governance model.

The show, together with a grand parade to be held silmutaneously at Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution, the National Day, and the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).
In particular, in April 2023, the two sides successfully carried out a joint operation that dismantled a major organised, transnational drug trafficking ring involving both Vietnamese and Cambodian suspects.
