RoK firm wants to bring Ninh Thuan chilli abroad

CJ Group of the Republic of Korea (RoK) will cooperate with the central province of Ninh Thuan to grow about 500-600ha of chilli plants under an agreement inked in Phan Rang-Thap Chap city on September 4.

Under the agreement, CJ Group will provide chilli seeds and technologies to local farmers and buy all chill produce.
CJ Group expects to harvest bout 3,000 tonnes of dried chillies eachyear, which will then be shipped to CJ Group’s processing factoriesbased in China, the RoK and several others in the world. ChangBok Sang, President of CJ Group in Vietnam, said the group wants toplant ten varieties of chilli imported from China and the RoK on a trialbasis for one year. If the result is good, the group willcarry out a decade-long project, starting from 2014, he said, addingthat the group will build a chilli processing and packaging factory inthe province. Ninh Thuan province has more than 562 hectaresof chilli, mostly in Ninh Hai and Ninh Phuoc districts, and PhanRang-Thap Cham and Thuan Bac cities, with a capacity averaging 20 tonnesper hectare.-VNA
