Hanoi (VNA)ꦯ – A defence ministry delegation from the Republic of Korea (RoK) shared peacekeeping experience during talks with experts and officers from the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre in Hanoi on December 7, the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) daily reported.

Director of the centre Colonel Hoang Kim Phung presented Vietnam’s achievements since it joined United Nations peacekeeping operations. He highlighted the deployment of officers to UN missions in the Central African Republic and South Sudan, the training of engineers and the establishment of a second-level field hospital.
The centre is currently providing training for Vietnamese peacekeeping forces and plans to offer training for similar forces in regional countries in the near future, Phung added. He asked the RoK to share its expertise relating to the centre’s operations and the design of training programmes in line with UN standards. Jeong Jang Soo, who led the RoK Defence Ministry’s delegation, said his country is willing to share its experience gained during its 22 years of UN peacekeeping operations.
Korean experts will do their utmost to help the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre to develop strongly, contributing to the two countries’ cooperation in the field, he noted. Since its inception in May 2014, the Vietnam Peacekeeping Centre has dispatched seven officers to UN missions in South Sudan and the Central African Republic. The country is preparing to deploy a second-level field hospital and a company of engineers to engage in peacekeeping missions when required.-VNA
