RoK bolsters investment in Vietnam’s education

Vietnamese education and training sector is a fertile land for enterprises from the Republic of Korea (RoK), said Kim Sang Mok from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) at a conference held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9.

HCM City (VNA) – Vietnamese education and training sector is afertile land for enterprises from the Republic of Korea (RoK), said Kim SangMok from the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) at a conferenceheld in Ho Chi Minh City on November 9.

The Vietnamese Government is prioritising education development to improveworkforce quality, opening up opportunities for foreign businesses, includingthose from the RoK, to boost investment in the sector, he noticed.

Kim Tae-hyeong, Director of the Korean Education Centre in Ho Chi Minh City,said that the RoK and Vietnam share a number of similarities in education andtraining. They all see education as top priority and humans as key driver ofeconomic development.

The RoK is applying information and technology (IT) to build smart educationwhile Vietnam is in need of modern and effective education models, he stressed,adding that education cooperation between the two countries is not only mutualbenefits but also helps build high-quality human resources, bringingsustainable prosperity to both sides.

According to Pham Ngoc Thanh, Vice Director of the municipal Department ofEducation and Training, the RoK landed 62 education products worth nearly 66million USD in Vietnam by the end of October, accounting for 9 percent of totalforeign direct investment (FDI) capital in the country’s education sector. However,he said, the figure is still humble as compared to cooperation potentialbetween the two countries.

Thanh said that Ho Chi Minh City is working to branch out the education systemthrough promoting technology transfer with education-developed countries,including the RoK.  Particularly, thecity also enhances experience sharing and signed a cooperation agreement oneducation management and training models with RoK universities.-VNA
