Requiem held in Binh Duong for traffic victims

A grand requiem for traffic accident victims was held at Hoi An Pagoda in Binh Duong province, on November 11 with the view of easing the pain of losing relatives of the bereaved families.

Binh Duong (VNA) - A grand requiem for traffic accident victimswas held at Hoi An Pagoda in Thu Dau city, southern Binh Duong province, onNovember 11 with the view of easing the pain of losing relatives of thebereaved families.

The function, with the participation of over10,000 Buddhist monks and followers and people, was jointly held by the VietnamBuddhist Sangha and the National Committee for Traffic Safety.

At the requiem, Minister of Transport Nguyen VanThe, Head of the National Committee for Traffic Safety, called on all centraland local relevant agencies, organisations and people to improve their roadsense and adherence to traffic safety regulations. 

According to Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Tran ThanhLiem, the event also aims to warn traffic participants to observe trafficsafety regulations, thus to ensure safety for themselves and others.

The requiem, the six of its kind in Vietnam, is partof activities in response to the World Day in Remembrance for Road TrafficVictims (the third Sunday of November) launched by the UN.

From January to October this year, traffic accidents nationwide claimed 6,800lives and injured 11,785 others.-VNA
