Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Vietnam to the United Nations, has called on parties concerned in Sudan to continue to exercise restraint to avoid escalating tensions.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held a teleconference on April 26 to discuss the situation in Abyei, a disputed region between Sudan and South Sudan, and activities of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of Vietnam’s permanent mission to the UN, showed his hope that the Sudanese Government would intensify efforts to ensure its leading role in protecting civilians and handling the root cause of violence among communities in Darfur while addressing an online informal interactive dialogue on the Darfur situation on April 14.
Vietnamese Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy spoke at a UN Security Council videoconference on March 9 where he called on Sudan to augment efforts to protect civilians and address the root causes of violence among communities.
Ambassador Dian Triansyah Djani, head of Indonesia’s permanent mission to the UN, affirmed Indonesia and Vietnam back the transition process in Sudan, when delivering a joint speech of the two countries at the UN Security Council briefing on Sudan situation and operations of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) on December 8.
The United Nations Security Council on October 22 held a meeting on the situation in Abyei, disputed between Sudan and South Sudan, as well as the operation of the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), during which Vietnam and Indonesia expressed their hope that the parties involved solve the Abyei issue by peaceful means.
