QuangTri (VNA) – The Lien Viet Post Joint Stock Commercial Bank (LienVietPostBank)will give central Quang Tri province a credit package worth 500 billion VND (22million USD) to help the locality develop macadamia farming.
Thecredit package was signed by representatives of the province and the bank at a workshopon macadamia cultivation in the mountainous district of Huong Hoa on June 10.
Withinthe framework of the workshop, more than 200 local farmers visited a macadamiafarm of My Anh Khe Sanh Co., Ltd. They were also instructed by leadingprofessors and experts in macadamia farming techniques, from designing orchardsto the planting, caring, harvesting and processing of macadamia.
Participantssaid that Khe Sanh town in Huong Hoa district has favourable soil and climateconditions and labour advantages for the cultivation of macadamia, which wasplanted in Vietnam since 1994.
QuangTri province has instructed the provincial agricultural sector and Huong Hoadistrict to zone off areas suitable for macadamia farming, while working withMy Anh Khe Sanh Co., Ltd. to help local farmers with macadamia growingtechniques.
Overthe past time, LienvietPostBank has partnered with the Vietnam MacadamiaAssociation to organise workshops on macadamia in the Central Highlands andNorthwestern regions.
According to a planapproved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the northwestand Central Highlands regions will plant macadamia trees on 9,940 hectares ofland and develop 12 processing units by 2020.
By 2030, there willbe 34,500 hectares nationwide and 30 processing units in the two regions. -VNA
