Quang Ninh encourages investors in tourism development

QuangNinh (VNA) – The northern province of Quang Ninh, which is rich incultural heritage and natural resources, has joined hands with investors topreserve and promote values of the treasure.

Overthe past five years, all national relic sites in Quang Ninh and 70 percent ofprovincial sites were upgraded at a total cost of hundreds of billions ofVietnam dong, becoming major tourist attractions in the locality.

Theprovince is calling for investors in a project on extending and developing theYen Tu historical relic and landscape area, spanning three phases with thefirst one from 2013-2015, the second from 2016-2020 and the third from2021-2025.

Oncethe project completed, the area is expected to become a national centre of theTruc Lam Yen Tu Buddhist sect.

Sofar, eight investment projects worth 2.3 trillion VND (101.2 million USD) arebeing deployed in the Yen Tu area.

Respondingto the locality’s investment invitations, Tung Lam Development JSC is carryingout a 940 billion VND (41.3 million USD) project on developing a centre ofcultural festivals and tourism services at the Giai Oan parking area. Thecompany has also poured 700 billion VND (30.8 million VND) into upgrading thetwo cable car lines and building an escalator at the Yen Tu historical relicand landscape area, among others.

QuangNinh also needs 4 trillion VND (176 million VND) to materialise a master planon the Tran Dynasty relic site, under which there will be six projects oninfrastructure development and preservation of relic sites.

Aspart of the plan, a project on upgrading the Ngoa Van pagoda invested by QuangNinh provincial Buddhist Sangha and the Dong Trieu district People’s Committeeis underway.

Anearly 1 trillion VND (44 million VND) project on building cable car system andsupport facilities at Ngoa Van-Ho Thien invested by Vinacomin Investment,Trading and Service JSC was put into operation since the beginning of 2016 toserve tourists to the two pagodas.

Theparticipation of businesses has helped significantly ease burden for the Statebudget, create a facelift for the relic sites and boost spiritual tourism inthe province.

Besidescalling for investment, the provincial authorities have taken measures topromote the value of its rich heritage. Quang Ninh has won national recognitionof the Yen Tu historical and landscape area in Uong Bi city, the Tran Dynastyhistorical and cultural relic site in Dong Trieu town and the Bach Dang relicsite in Quang Yen town, raising the total number of special national relicsites in the locality to four.

Theprovince has also partnered with Hai Duong and Bac Ninh provinces to compile dossiersto apply to the UNESCO for recognition of the Tran Dynasty relic site and TrucLam Yen Tu Buddhist sect as world cultural heritage sites.

In2016, Quang Ninh welcomed 8.3 million tourist arrivals, a year-on-year increaseof seven percent, earned over 13 trillion VND (571 million USD) in revenue, up23 percent, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.

By2020, the province aims to serve 15-16 million tourists, including sevenmillion foreigners, and rake in 30-40 trillion VND (1.3-1.7 billion USD) inrevenue. The tourism sector is expected to contribute 14-15 percent to thegross regional domestic product.-VNA
