Quang Ninh among localities with highest economic growth in H1

Hanoi (VNA) – Northeastern Quang Ninh province’seconomic growth is estimated at 10.16 percent in the first half of 2018,according to the provincial Department of Planning and Investment.
The growth rate helps Quang Ninh rank in the leadinggroup of provinces and cities in the northern key economic region and biglocalities nationwide, the department said.
This year, Quang Ninh sets an economic growth target ofover 10.6 percent. To achieve the goal, the province plans to take concretemeasures to boost the economic growth in the remaining months.
It will also continue helping enterprises tackledifficulties, supporting start-up businesses and facilitating production.
The province has maintained a relatively high economicgrowth over the past few years. In 2017, its Gross Regional Domestic Product(GRDP) exceeded 12.5 trillion VND (553 million USD), a year-on-year increase of10.2 percent. The GRDP per capita reached 4,500 USD per year, up 11 percentyear on year.
The economic structure has gradually shifted towardsservices which rose by 14.5 percent, the highest among the local industries.
The province also saw a year-on-year expansion of 10.1percent in total investment to 60.6 trillion VND. Investors haveput in a large investment to upgrade the transport system,promoting the development of Quang Ninh.
These include Van Don airport project, with atotal investment capital of nearly 7.5 trillion VND, which will supportthe development of the Van Don special administrative and economic zone.
Other projects, like Ha Long–Hai Phong Highway and HaLong–Van Don Highway, will create transport links in the economic triangle ofHanoi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh and the Hanoi – Hai Phong – Ha Long – Van DonHighway to attract more investment and contribute to the local socio-economicdevelopment and the northern key economic region.-VNA
Authorities have rejected an investor’s proposal to build a chemical factory near the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
