Quang Nam: Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem listed among national relic sites

– The central provinceof Quang Nam’s Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem, an important political, military,economic and cultural centre established in 1602 in the Nguyen Dynasty wasrecognised as a national relic site on June 12.

The recognition ceremony, coinciding with the415th anniversary of the site, was organised by the provincial People’sCommittee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Addressing the event, Deputy Director of theMinistry’s Heritage Department Nong Quoc Thanh hailed the recognition, sayingthat it reflects the efforts of the state to promote the site’s value and thegratitude the people have for their ancestors.

It also honours the values of the Vietnamese modernscript in the nation’s modernisation and integration, Thanh added.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’sCommittee Le Tri Thanh said the province has paid attention to studying, preservingand promoting the cultural value of Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem. It was recognised asa province-level relic site in 2008.

The recognition reaffirmed the historical andcultural values of the site in connection with the introduction of theVietnamese script, Thanh said.

Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem Palace was built in 1602by Lord Nguyen Hoang in place now Dien Phuong commune of Dien Ban town, 10kmfrom Cua Dai beach. 

The first school teaching the romanised scriptwas also built in Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem.-VNA
