QuangBinh (VNA) - Forest rangers in central Quang Binh province on December6 detained a man who was carrying two stripe-headed black langurs (Trachypithecus hatinhensis), listed by the International Union forConservation of Nature as an endangered species.
Rangers ofthe Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park detained Dinh Van Tuy, 29, a resident ofthe province’s Hoa Hop commune with two dead langurs weighing 15kg. One of thetwo langurs had been skinned and its viscera removed.
Tuyadmitted to the rangers that he was transporting the langurs to sell as food.The rangers are investigating the case further.
The languris endemic to the national park, which is located in Quang Binh and borders HaTinh province. The endangered primate is favoured target of illegal hunts formeat in the area.
Vietnamese law prohibits thehunting, killing, storing, trading and transporting of wild animals.-VNA
The Forest Ranger Sub-department of southern Dong Nai province has completed a project to protect the black-shanked douc langurs found recently on Chua Chan mountain, in Xuan Loc district.
The central province of Quang Nam plans to restore a 80ha forest as habitat for a herd of gray-shanked douc langurs living in Dong Co village, Tam My Tay commune.
