Pu Luong Nature Reserve protects rare animals

Thanh Hoa (VNA) – The management boardof Pu Luong Nature Reserve in Bac Thuoc district, north central Thanh Hoaprovince, has implemented a research project to preserve the Asian black bearand palm civet between 2017 and 2019.

The project aims to record the number and distributionof the two animals, food resources and possible threats to devise measures tomove them off the list of endangered species.

Director of the management board Le The Su saidthe three-year-old project will invite experts to provide inspection andpreservation training for 20 officials.

A dozen workshops will be held to raise localawareness of protecting the rare animals.

The number of Asian black bears and palm civetsat Pu Luong has declined due to illegal hunting and deforestation.

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remo💎te sensing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.
