Prof. Vu Khieu receives Hungary’s Knight Cross Order

Hanoi (VNA)ไ – Prof. Vu Khieu, a senior researcher of Vietnam, has been honoured with the Hungary Order of Merit Knight Cross for his lifetime contributions to fostering the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary.

Hungarian National Assembly Speaker Kover Laszlo presented the reward to the Vietnamese professor at a ceremony in Hanoi on November 9, which was also attended by National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung. Professor Vu Khieu was one of the first Vietnamese who studied and worked in Hungary in the 1960s.
Over the past 60 years, he has devoted much time and effort to spreading Hungary’s culture to Vietnamese people and supported many Hungarian researchers in studying Vietnam, particularly in the fields of science, culture and society. Speaking at the event, the professor said it is a great honour for him to receive this noble order, pledging to continue promoting the traditional friendship and partnership between the two nations. Professor Vu Khieu, whose full name is Dang Vu Khieu, just turned 100 in September. He was born into a patriotic intellectual family in Hanh Thien village, Xuan Truong district, the northern province of Nam Dinh.
He is the author of hundreds of scientific research works on Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh’s ideology as well as on various topics of philosophy, culture, arts and society. He is not only the founder of aesthetics research in Vietnam but also the one who laid the foundation for Vietnamese sociology. He has held many important positions, including Director of the Institute of Sociology, Deputy General Director of the Vietnam News Agency and Deputy Head of the Vietnam Committee for Social Sciences. He has been honoured with several accolades from the Party and State, including the Ho Chi Minh award in 1996, Labor Hero title in 2000 and the Independence Order, first class in 2006, among others in recognition of his significant contributions to the nation’s revolutionary cause and cultural development.-VNA
