Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has affirmed that the Party and State have issuedtimely policies to support farmers’ development as the globalization processhas posed challenges and impacts to agricultural production and business.
Speaking at the programme “Pride ofVietnamese farmers during 30 years of reform” held in Hanoi on October 14 tomark the 87th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union(VFU), PM Phuc described farmers as an important force in national developmentprocess.
The PM asked the VFU CentralCommittee to continue upholding its role and protect legitimate rights andinterests of farmers.
He expressed wish that businessowners who are farmers would contribute more to the agriculture sector andnational development.
On this occasion, 87 farmers werehonoured with the title “Outstanding farmers during 30 years of reform” fortheir achievements in agricultural and rural development. They were selected from137 nominees from 63 cities and provinces across the country.
In response to the anniversary, theVFU Central Committee has recently held a national conference gathering 300outstanding farmers nationwide, a conference discussing technologicalapplication in agricultural production, and a Vietnamese Farmers’ Forum, and aceremony to grant the national press award “Pride of Vietnamese farmers”, amongothers.
The title “Outstanding VietnameseFarmers” was initiated by the VFU Central Committee, the Party CentralCommittee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry ofAgriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in2013.
The annual award ceremony is heldon the VFU’s founding day (October 14).-VNA
