Prime Minister meets Hai Phong voters

Hai Phong (VNA) – The Government will continue improving itsperformance by dealing with current problems, while focusing on boostingeconomic development and ensuring social welfare, Prime Minister Nguyen XuanPhuc told voters in Kien An ward, northern Hai Phong city on December 4.

The PM briefed the voters on Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements so farthis year, with exports expanding by 21 percent compared to the plan to over200 billion USD, and trade surplus of 2.8 billion USD, along with over 47billion USD in foreign currency reserve in 11 months of 2017.

He also noted that more than 120,000 new firms have been set up, whileVietnam has attracted over 33 billion USD in foreign direct investment for thefirst time.

Meanwhile, the number of poor households has been reduced significantly,and defence and security have been ensured, he said.

Particularly, the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 and related meetingswas held successfully, he added.

Hailing the PM’s answers to deputies’ questions during the National Assembly’sfourth session, voter Hoang Dinh Chien asked the PM to brief the voters on theGovernment’s management in 2018 to ensure sustainable growth and complete the2015-2020 plan.

Responding to Chine’s request, PM Phuc said that in the coming time,along with overcoming the consequence of disaster and ensure national security,the Government will also work hard to improve social security and welfare.

At the same time, the Government will also apply drastic measures to preventand combat corruption and wastefulness.

Answering to voter Dinh Dang Hung on solutions to develop hightechnology agriculture, the PM said that the cabinet will continue gatheringvoters’ opinions on the adjustments to the Law on Land, thus facilitating the developmentof hi-tech agriculture on large scale.

Meanwhile, voter Nguyen Duc Hanh showed interest in the Party andState’s policy in protecting the sovereignty over seas and islands andcooperation in exploiting maritime resources.

Regarding the issue, the Government leader stressed said that Vietnamresolutely safeguards the national sovereignty over seas and islands in linewith international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Vietnam will continue using peaceful measures and negotiations combinedwith protest to protect seas and islands sovereignty, he stated.

Recalling the EU’s issuance of yellow card to Vietnamese seafood, the PMsaid he hopes fishermen will abide by international law in fishing activities, andasked Hai Phong locals to take the pioneering role in the work.-VNA
