Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Pham Minh Chinh left Hanoi on May 9 morning for the42nd ASEAN Summit in Indonesia, at the invitation of Indonesian President and Chairman of the Summit Joko Widodo.
He is accompanied by high-ranking officials of the NA and ministries.
The 42nd ASEAN Summit is taking place in Labuan Bajo from May 9-11 with the participation ofASEAN member nations’ leaders. Prime Minister Timor Leste was invited toattend the summit for the first time as an observer.

Sessionswithin the summit will focus on the process of building ASEAN Community withthe themed “ASEAN Matters:Epicentre of Growth”, and discuss international and regional issues ofmutual concern.
Dialogue sessions between leaders of ASEAN countries and representatives of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the ASEANBusiness Advisory Council (ABAC), and the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision will be also arranged.
Thesummit is expected to consider and approve many important documents on cooperationin all three pillars: ASEAN political-securitycommunity, economy and socio-culture./.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, from May 9-11.
With the 2023 ASEAN theme of “ASEAN Matters: Epicentre of Growth”, the coming 42nd ASEAN Summit reflects member countries’ wish and efforts to turn the bloc into a growth epicentre that leads cooperation and connectivity processes in the region and contributes to the common goal of peace, stability, and prosperity.
The Vietnamese delegation to the upcoming 42nd ASEAN Summit led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will contribute many important ideas to promote ASEAN cooperation and contribute to the overall success of the summit slated for May 9-11 in Indonesia, according to Ambassador Nguyen Hai Bang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to ASEAN.
Ambassador Vu Ho, acting head of the ASEAN Senior Officials' (SOM) delegation of Vietnam, joined his counterparts from other regional countries in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia on May 8 to discuss preparations for the 42nd Summit of the bloc.
The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation ensures that regular flights to and from Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai district, East Nusa Tenggara province, will continue to be operated during the 42nd ASEAN Summit from May 9-11.

During the negotiations, the US highly evaluated Vietnam’s goodwill and efforts, affirmed its appreciation for the bilateral relationship, acknowledged Vietnam’s proposals and concerns, and considered these an important basis for continuing discussions and moving towards a final agreement.
The Chairman stressed the need for stricter fiscal discipline, faster digital transformation, and more efficient management of State budget revenues and expenditures.
