President seeks stronger multifaceted cooperation with Japan

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang on September 12 receivedJapanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, who has been in Vietnam toattend the World Economic Forum on ASEAN (WEF ASEAN) 2018 and co-chair the 10thsession of the Vietnam-Japan Cooperation Committee.

President Quang took thisoccasion to send his sympathy to Japanese people over the huge losses causedby a devastating earthquake in the northern prefecture of Hokkaido.

The President said he washappy at the rapid, comprehensive and practical development of theVietnam-Japan strategic partnership in all fields, especially in economiccooperation, trade, investment, agriculture, human resources training, culturaland people-to-people exchanges, as the two countries are celebrating the 45th foundinganniversary of diplomatic relations.

He affirmed that thepolitical trust between the nations has been strengthened through visits andmeetings by their senior leaders, notably the Vietnam visit by the JapaneseEmperor and Empress in 2017 and the state visit by the Vietnamese President andhis spouse to Japan in May.

PresidentQuang asked the Japanese FM to make greater efforts to deepen the Vietnam-Japanfriendship and cooperation, and promote collaboration in economy, trade andinvestment.

Hevoiced his hope that Japan would continue providing official developmentassistance (ODA) for Vietnam’s infrastructure, human resource development andclimate change adaptation.

ThePresident spoke highly of Japan’s assistance to Vietnam in firefighting andsearch and rescue, as well as activities marking the 45th founding anniversaryof diplomatic ties, which enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between theVietnamese and Japanese people.

In reply, Japanese FM Konoexpressed his delight at the robust development of the Vietnam-Japanpartnership in all spheres, especially after the Vietnam visit by the JapaneseEmperor and Empress in 2017 and the state visit by the Vietnamese President andhis spouse to Japan in May.

Hepledged to spare no efforts to accelerate the implementation agreements signedby senior leaders of the two countries, thus helping to develop bilateralrelations in a more practical and effective manner.

Vietnam’ssustainable development will contribute to peace, stability, cooperation and developmentin the region, the diplomat said, adding that Japan will support Vietnam’s sustainabledevelopment.

He also voiced his hope thetwo nations would increase coordination and sharing of views at regional andinternational forums, such as the United Nations, ASEAN and related mechanisms,especially when Vietnam assumes the role as coordinator of ASEAN-Japanrelations in the 2018-2021 period.-VNA
