Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung had a meeting with young scientists on September 11 who have made outstanding achievements recognised nationally and internationally. During the meeting, the first between young scientists and the Government leader, Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan said many practical innovations by young scientists have brought great socio-economic efficiency. However, Quan pointed out that the young scientists are facing many difficulties in research conditions, equipment and expenditures and their salaries do not provide them with financial security.
The scientists also proposed necessary policies to the PM that would assist the scientists to contribute more to the nation. According to Dr. Pham Van Phuc from the Ho Chi Minh City National University , problems in training scientists as well as financial policies for scientific and technological activities have not been thoroughly dealt with, along with unnecessarily complicated and burdensome regulations. Meanwhile, Chairman of the FPT Group’s Board of Directors Truong Gia Binh shared his opinions on the reality of business start-ups and investment ventures as well as on how to improve the nation’s capacity to update new technology and attract adventurous investments from both within and outside the country. Praising the efforts and achievements of the scientists over the past years, PM Nguyen Tan Dung affirmed that the Party, State and Government always pay attention to creating favourable conditions for young scientists to promote their talent and creativity.
He said that in order for Vietnam to rise above developing country status and speed up modernisation and industrialisation, the Party and State have defined human resources, especially high-quality personnel, as well as the application of advanced science and technology as strategic priorities. He asked the Ministry of Science & Technology and other ministries, localities, research institutes, universities and enterprises to design effective policies mechanisms to support, employ and train young scientists while encouraging investment and assistance for science-technology business start-ups. It is also necessary to back young scientists to increase research activities for new technologies while forming a chain of science-technology business, turning ideas into products with strong competitiveness in domestic and world markets, he said.
The PM also affirmed that the Government will sponsor a non-profit project to produce glasses for the blind, which received the humanitarian award at the Robocon Techshow 2012.-VNA
