PM urges removing difficulties for Hoa Lac hi-tech park

At a workingsession with relevant ministries and agencies and Hanoi authoritieson August 13, the Government leader confirmed the policy of buildingseveral hi-tech areas to serve the application and development ofscience and technology in efforts to improve productivity and thenational economy’s competitiveness.

He said the slowprogress of the two projects is partly due to inappropriate allocationof investment resources, adding that the general scale of the twoprojects will be maintained while detailed planning should be revised tomaximize the efficiency of investment and prevent wastefulness.

Pinpointing site clearance and relocation of residents from the siteas the biggest problem, PM Dung asked Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam to hold ameeting with the Ministries of Finance and Planning and Investment thismonth to review and calculate capital resources, with a determination toaccomplish this work in the earliest time.

Approvedto be set up in 1998, the Hoa Lac Hi-tech Park covers nearly 1,590 ha.It has so far attracted 70 projects with a total investment of more than56 trillion VND (2.67 billion USD), including those to build FPTuniversity and software park, Viettel hi-tech centre and a nationalsatellite centre.

However, only 70 percent of thepark’s total area has been cleared up for construction. The nearbyHanoi National University project is also facing the same problem,with an additional 7 trillion VND (33 million USD) needed to completesite clearance for both projects.-VNA
