PM thanks Australia for COVID-19 vaccine donation

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 6 sent a thank-you letter to his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison for Australia’s donations of COVID-19 vaccine and medical equipment to Vietnam’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Pham Minh Chinh on October 6 sent a thank-you letter to his Australiancounterpart Scott Morrison for Australia’s donations of COVID-19 vaccine andmedical equipment to Vietnam’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier the same day, Australian Ambassadorto Vietnam Robyn Modie handed over additional 300,000 doses of AstraZenecavaccine manufactured in Australia, and medical supplies, including medicalmasks and personal protective suits, to Vietnamese Deputy Minister of HealthTruong Quoc Cuong.

So far, Australia has donated over700,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Vietnam, as part of its commitment toshare 1.5 million doses to support the Southeast Asian nation’s pandemic fight.

Australiaalso announced that it will support Vietnam with 3.7 more million doses ofvaccine in the near future through an agreement with UNICEF and the VietnameseMinistry of Health, lifting the total number of vaccines it committed to providefor Vietnam to 5.2 million doses worth 60 million AUD (over 43.6 million USD).  

TheAustralian side is working in partnership with UNICEF to support cold chainupgrades, training for healthcare workers, communications, and planning andimplementation of the vaccine rollout in remote provinces in Vietnam./.
