Hanoi, July 30 (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on July 29 evening praised the Vietnam U23 national football team for their remarkable 1-0 victory over Indonesia in the final of the 2025 AFF U23 Championship, securing their third consecutive regional title.
In a letter of congratulations sent shortly after the match, the PM extended his heartfelt commendations to the players, coaching staff, the Vietnam Football Federation, and fans across the country, calling the win a resounding success.
The achievement further cements Vietnam’s dominance in Southeast Asian youth football, and showcases the firmness, talent, solidarity, and aspiration to rise of the young players donning the national jersey, he noted.

He highlighted the team’s resilience, composure, and determination throughout the tournament, noting that their spirited performance evoked powerful emotions and sparked national pride among millions of Vietnamese at home and abroad.
The victory, he noted, is not only a sporting milestone but also a powerful reflection of the enduring spirit and aspirations of Vietnamese youth striving toward international success.

Vietnam’s U23 football team defeated hosts Indonesia 1-0 in the final of the 2025 AFF U23 Championship, held at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on the evening of July 29. The only goal of the match came in the 36th minute, scored by Cong Phuong, sealing a hard-fought victory and securing Vietnam’s successful title defence. With this triumph, Vietnam became the first team in the tournament’s history to win three consecutive U23 ASEAN titles.
Vietnam’s U23 squad continued their impressive run at the 2025 ASEAN U23 Championship, staging a thrilling comeback to edge the Philippines 2-1 in the semifinal on July 25 and secure their third consecutive appearance in the tournament’s final.
