PM orders stronger management over farm produce market

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has told the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to draw lessons and seek ways to improve the poor management of the farm produce market, with the most recent example being the slump in the price of pork, causing great losses to farmers.

Hanoi (VNA) – PrimeMinister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has told the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment (MARD) to draw lessons and seek ways to improve the poor managementof the farm produce market, with the most recent example being the slump in theprice of pork, causing great losses to farmers.

Presiding overthe Cabinet meeting on May 4, the PM also required the Minister of Industry and Trade totake measures to address the declining exploitation and production of themining sector.

Looking back the socio-economicsituation in the past month, the Government leader expressed delight at thestrong growth in the number of tourists in the four-day national holiday on theoccasion of the anniversary of the Liberation of the South and NationalReunification.

He noted that the macro-economyand consumer price index remained stable, while economic growth pace continuedto recover and credit was at the highest growth rate in recent years.

Foreign direct investment attractioncontinued to rise with 10.8 billion USD of investment so far this year, whileState budget collection showed good signs, he said, adding that in April, nearly40,000 new businesses were set up, along with 825 trillion VND (36.2 billionUSD) in investment poured into the economy.

Analysing theweaknesses and problems that need to be addressed promptly, the PM mentionedthe delay in the distribution and disbursement of public investment capital. 

Exports ofproducts like iron and steel, petroleum, chemicals, and cattle-feed aresinking, while the equitisation of State-run businesses is progressing at asnail’s pace. 

The number ofprivate businesses has been increasing, but they are mainly small-andmedium-sized, he noted. 

He requestedthe Ministry of Home Affairs to devise measures to strengthen administrativediscipline and prevent violations related to personnel work.

Regarding theland issue in Dong Tam commune, My Duc district, Hanoi, the PM orderedministries, departments and localities to work out solutions to prevent therecurrence of such incidents. 

“It isimpossible to just focus on economic growth but underestimate the guarantee ofsocial order and safety”, he said. 

In this spirit,the PM directed cabinet members to spare no efforts to promote economic growth whileensuring social order and security across the country. 

Businesses andpeople are relying on government and localities’ actions to see better changesin the future, he added.

He alsosuggested cabinet members discuss how to deal with 12 loss-making projects.-VNA
