PM meets Can Tho voters ahead of parliament’s seventh session

Can Tho (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly (NA) deputies of Can Tho had a meeting with voters in O Mon district of the Mekong Delta city on May 12, ahead of the 15th NA’s seventh session.

At the event, participants were informed about the agenda of the parliament’s coming session and listened to a report on the performance of the Can Tho NA deputies’ delegation during the first four months of 2024.

Local voters raised opinions about certain issues affecting socio-economic aspects of O Mon district as well as Can Tho and the Mekong Delta at large, including waste and wastewater treatment, drought and saltwater intrusion, investment in transport infrastructure, and the implementation of the chain of Block B - O Mon gas and power projects and the O Mon power centre.

Addressing the meeting, PM Chinh, who is also an NA deputy of Can Tho, gave voters a brief review of the country’s socio-economic situation during the first four months, which saw better results compared to the same period of 2023 in almost fields, including the macro-economy basically stable, the recovery trend sustained, inflation under control, and major balances of the economy guaranteed.

He attributed those results to the strong leadership and directions by the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, led by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the close and active coordination from the NA and agencies in the political system, support from people and enterprises, as well as cooperation and assistance from international friends.

Pointing out certain shortcomings, difficulties, challenges, causes and lessons, he highlighted the focal tasks and solutions on socio-economic development the Government will carry out in the time ahead.

With regard to Can Tho, the Government leader asked the city to push ahead with implementing the Politburo’s Resolution 13 on orientations for socio-economic development and defence - security safeguarding in the Mekong Delta by 2030 with a vision to 2045. It also needs to comprehensively and effectively carry out the master plans of the Mekong Delta and Can Tho.

Stressing the one thing to focus on, the two to enhance and the three to step up, he demanded the city focus on effectively mobilising and utilising every resource, promoting traditional growth impulses, and making breakthrough in new ones.

Meanwhile, it needs to enhance investing in and developing the human factor, and enhance its connectivity with other localities in the Mekong Delta, the country, and the world, especially in terms of economy, production and consumption through the transport system, production system, and value chains.

In addition, Can Tho should step up the development of a comprehensive and inclusive strategic infrastructure system, step up industrial development, and step up science - technology application and innovation, PM Chinh continued.

He voiced his hope that local voters will also exert efforts to contribute to the development and prosperity of Can Tho and the whole nation.
