PM Hun Sen affirms Cambodia’s stability

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen affirmed that the country remains stable after the dissolution of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order.

Hanoi(VNA) – Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen on November 22 affirmedthat the country remains stable after the dissolution of the oppositionCambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) in accordance with the Supreme Court’sorder.

Speaking to workersof a garment factory in Phnom Penh capital city, the PM stressed that Cambodiais stable, with all activities taking place normally and there is no politicalcrisis.

He also affirmed thatgarment and footwear exports of Cambodia will not be affected by thedissolution of the CNRP as the country has various international tradepartners.

Garment andfootwear are key exports of Cambodia, creating jobs for nearly 754,000 domesticworkers and raking in 7.3 billion USD, or 74 percent of Cambodia’s exportrevenue last year.

On the occasion,PM Hun Sen announced a ceremony to pray for the country’s peace which will beheld at Angkor Wat Temple on December 2-3 with the participation of more than7,000 monks.

Cambodia’s Supreme Court on November 16 ordered the dissolution of theCNRP in response to the Interior Ministry's lawsuit. The court ruling alsobanned 118 senior officials of the party from politics for five years from thedate of this verdict issuance.

The Interior Ministry accused the CNRP of seriously violating therevised Law on Political Parties, saying the party had conspired withforeigners to topple the Government. CNRP leader Kem Sokha was arrested onSeptember 3 on charge of treason.

Fifty-five members of the CNRP were removed fromtheir posts in the National Assembly of Cambodia and more than 5,000 othermembers were stripped from commune council seats.

Next week, the National Election Committee of Cambodia will distributethe seats held by the CNRP in the National Assembly and commune councils toother political parties that also joined in the election.-VNA
