Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Pham MinhChinh on September 23 urged studying measures to ensure safe and flexible adaptation to the COVID-19 pandemic along with effective disease containment solutions.

Speaking at a meeting of the National SteeringCommittee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, the Government leader said the pandemic hasbeen gradually put under control.

However, a few localities have failed to make notedprogress in the combat, and the situation remains complicated in Ho ChiMinh City, said Chinh, who is also head of the committee.

Affirming that measures undertaken so far are appropriate and effective, he asked ministries, agencies and localities tocontinue following the set major orientations and measures in the time ahead.

The PM stressed that instruction should go in tandem with inspection andsupervision, and reiterated the principles that health care plays the central role; economy serves as thefoundation; data, science and technology are the key; political and socialstability is essential; and vaccines, treatment drugs and publicawareness are the prerequisites. 

Chinh ordered accelerating the mass vaccination safelyand efficiently, and pushing ahead with the transfer of production technology for COVID-19 vaccines, treatmentdrugs and other medical supplies.

He required continued support to HCM City and its adjacentlocalities like Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Long An, and intensified inspection and supervision over pandemic prevention and control work in localities,especially medical services and social welfare.

Ministries and agencies need to step up their coordinationto find measures for safe and flexible adaptation to the new situation while effectively containing the pandemic, step-by step easing social distancing restrictions and restoring production and business, and rolling out supportive policies in atimely, effective and transparent manner.

At the same time, greater efforts are needed to fight negative phenomena and group interests, and strictly handling fake news and misinformation, the PM said./.
