HCM City (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc onJanuary 27 applauded achievements obtained by the customs sub-department of TanSon Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.

During a visit ahead of the Lunar New Year(Tet), he said efforts by the sub-department have promptly prevented drug andweapon trafficking via Tan Son Nhat, one of the two biggest airports inVietnam, thereby greatly contributing to security and social order and safety.

A surge in travel via Tan Son Nhat during Tetsets a heavy task for customs officers who must be fully alert and deal withemergencies in a timely manner, he noted.

Amidst the increasingly intensive economicintegration, the customs sector of HCM City in general has to prevent smugglingas well as sabotage schemes of hostile forces.

The Government leader told them to push aheadwith fighting smuggling and trade fraud while promoting procedure reforms tohelp create an open and healthy investment environment in Vietnam.

The customs sub-department of Tan Son Nhat Airportshould also strive to take the lead in ensuring the safety of customsactivities in the country, he added.

In 2016, it uncovered 250 smuggling cases worthsome140 billion VND (about 6.2 million USD) and collected more than 7 trillionVND (nearly 310 million USD) for the State budget. -VNA
