Hanoi (VNA)🌳 - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 15 chaired anational teleconference discussing the rapid and sustainable development ofVietnam’s tourism.
The event, the second of its kind this year, connectedrepresentatives from the 63 cities and provinces together. As of the late October 2023, the total foreignarrivals in Vietnam hit nearly 10 million, only 69% of that recorded in thesame period last year. The number of domestic visitors reached 99 million. To develop tourism into a spearhead economicsector and achieve the goal of welcoming at least 35 million foreigners and 120million domestic tourists by 2025, and 50 million foreign and 160 milliondomestic tourists by 2030, the Vietnamese tourism industry needs a genuinetransformation in mindset and approach. This involves taking creative,breakthrough, concerted, and effective measures while adopting the strategy ofclose linkage, smooth coordination and comprehensive cooperation, Chinh saidin his speech. He asked participants to clarify contents andrequirements related to mechanisms and policies for tourism development, resourcesand workforce training for the industry, tourism governance from thenational level to local units and businesses; and coordinating efforts among ministries,agencies, units and enterprises.

Participants looked into obstacles andproposed solutions to attract visitors and achieve rapid, sustainable tourismdevelopment, including enhancing regional and sectoral linkages and fosteringpublic-private partnerships to build tourism products and popularise tourism. They also discussed the role of localitiesand entities in destination management and promotion, efforts to attractinternational tourists through air, land, and sea routes, the role of Vietnam'soverseas diplomatic representative agencies in the effort, and measuresto increase tourist spending through shopping./.
Orientations and measures to branch out cultural and eco-tourism in the Central Highlands region in a sustainable fashion were highlighted at a workshop in Gia Lai province on November 12.
