PM calls for more efforts to develop key economic regions

Hanoi (VNA) –Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on July 26 called for more efforts to developVietnam’s key economic regions as the growth of the regions has contributedimportantly to the country’s success.
Speaking at a meetingwith relevant ministries and sectors to discuss measures to boost the regions’ growth,PM Phuc noted that the regions are facing numerous challenges related toclimate change, regional planning, connectivity and coordination mechanisms.
He emphasised theimportance of speeding up investment disbursement, solving difficulties inproduction, attracting more investment, and expanding the application oftechnologies in production and business.
The Government leaderrequested localities to take measures to ensure the process of infrastructureprojects which are drawing public concern, especially in the electricity sector,and speed up transport infrastructure projects to create breakthroughdevelopment for localities and key economic regions.
Ministries, sectorsand localities were asked to ensure enough power supply for production andbusiness, while key economic regions were required to take the lead in sayingno to disposable plastic products.
Vietnam now has thenorthern, central, southern and Mekong Delta key economic regions.
According to a reportof the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the 2011-2017 period, the fourregions’ average gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increased by 7.14 percenta year, mainly driven by growth in processing and manufacturing.-VNA
The Southern Key Economic Zone needs more robust policies and mechanisms for attracting resources and FDI and enhancing linkages between localities to develop faster and sustainably.
Foreign investment has continued to be poured into Vietnam recently, creating a driving force for industrial property development in 2019, said insiders.
