The Prime Minister was welcomed at Haneda International Airportby Japanese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Minoru Kiuchi, JapaneseAmbassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada, Vietnamese Ambassador to JapanDoan Xuan Hung, together with overseas Vietnamese.

He is scheduled to take part in the 7th Mekong-Japan Summit to fosterthe Mekong-Japan cooperation towards supporting socio-economicdevelopment in the Mekong region in general and in Vietnam inparticular.

Vietnam will take this occasion toaffirm its commitment to and role in the cooperation mechanism, whilereinforcing its friendship and cooperation with other Greater MekongSub-region (GMS) countries and making the Vietnam-Japan StrategicPartnership more comprehensive and effective.

Thesummit has significant meaning in passing the Tokyo Strategy 2015 andmapping out cooperation orientations between Japan and five Mekongnations, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, in the2016-2018 period.-VNA
