PM attends 75th national public security conference

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phucrequested resolutely fighting manifestations of lack of responsibility andemotionless response to legitimate requirements of citizens during the 75thnational public security conference in Hanoi on December 24.
As a number of important events will take place in thecountry next year, he asked public security force to identify challenges, fixshortcomings, take drastic and effective actions to meet demand in the newsituation.
They were required to firmly maintain national security,ensure social safety and order in every circumstance, absolutely protectsecurity and safety of party congresses at all levels towards the 13th NationalParty Congress, the ASEAN Summit, political, cultural and diplomatic events ofthe country.
He noted that they must improve the efficiency of Statemanagement on security and order, contributing to building a law-governed Stateof the people, by the people, and for the people.
It is a must to build a strong and transparent publicsecurity force, thus deserving the trust of the people, he said.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Public SecuritySen. Lieut. Gen. Bui Van Nam said the force launched a number of crackdowns on crimes,investigated and dealt with over 40,700 criminal violation cases, and smashedmore than 2,200 gangs this year.
He added that the police handled over 14,300 economicmanagement violation cases, 298 corruption and over 1,700 smuggling cases,arrested more than 35,100 drug traffickers, confiscated nearly 1,500kg ofheroin, over 5,500kg of meth and nearly 1 million meth pills.
As many as nine officers were killed, 304 others wereinjured and hundreds of others were exposed to HIV virus while working onmission. With such dedication, thousands of officers and soldiers were awardedwith noble distinctions by the Party and State, he said./.
President Truong Tan Sang has requested public security forces to mobilise all its strength to safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The public security sector must carry forward its core role in maintaining national security and social order and safety in any situation, said Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong.
Stronger efforts and determination are required to achieve and surpass the set targets, especially in the eradication of makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide, the acceleration of public investment disbursement, and the implementation of nationally important transport projects, PM Pham Minh Chinh noted.
The trip will be made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and WEF President and CEO Børge Brende, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
