Aichi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived ෴in Nagoya city of Japℱan’s Aichi prefecture on the afternoon of May 26 (Vietnam time) for an official visit to Japan and to attend the expanded G7 Summit Japan 2016.
Immediately after his arrival, the PM is scheduled to attend a high-level economic policy dialogue between Vietnam and Japan and have bilateral meetings with leaders of several countries attending the expanded G7 summit.
During the stay, PM Phuc will hold talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe, during which they are expected to discuss major orientations and specific measures to intensify the two countries’ relations in the fields of politics, economics, trade, investment, supporting industry, agriculture, climate change response, health, education and training, and science and technology.
They will witness the exchange of cooperation documents between the two countries.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic ties with in 1963. The two countries upgraded their relations to a strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2009, and to an extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2014.
Japan has become one of Vietnam’s leading important economic partners. It is now the fourth largest trade partner of Vietnam, with two-way trade hitting over 28 billion USD last year and about 6.4 billion USD in the first quarter of this year. The country ranks second among 114 countries and territories worldwide investing in Vietnam, with over 3,000 direct investment projects worth over 39 billion USD as of April 20, 2016.
Japan remains the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam, making up about 30 percent of the total ODA committed by international communities for the Southeast Asian country.
Japan is the first G7 member country to have established a strategic partnership with Vietnam and recognised Vietnam’s market economy.-VNA

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed hope that his visit to Japan from May 26-28 will create new impetus to further strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang cleared up deputies' concern regarding how to spur socio-economic growth, renew traditional growth motives and establish new momentum for development.

Highlighting the transformative potential of the draft law in revitalising Vietnam’s railway industry, Hoang Van Cuong, a deputy of Hanoi, expressed his support for Article 39, which empowers the Prime Minister to issue a list of railway-related goods and services to be assigned or ordered from domestic enterprises for production.
