PM approves WB-funded coastal environment project

The Prime Minister has approved a project on environmental sustainability in coastal cities funded by loans from the World Bank (WB).

Hanoi (VNA) – The Prime M🦩inister has approved a project on environmental sustainability in coastal cities funded by loans from the World Bank (WB).

The project is aimed at improving sanitation and quality of life for the residents of the cities by upgrading infrastructure and urban landscapes in line with increasing awareness of environmental protection. It will be implemented in four coastal cities including Phan Rang-Thap Cham city in Ninh Thuan province, Nha Trang city in Khanh Hoa province, Quy Nhon city in Binh Dinh province, and Dong Hoi city in Quang Binh province. The total cost was estimated at approximately 273.6 million USD, nearly 87 percent of which, or 237.5 million USD, will be sourced from WB soft loans.-VNA

Vietnam pioneers use of AI and remote sensඣing to monitor seawater quality

According to Dr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Space Centre and head of the project, this is the first study in Vietnam to simultaneously employ Sentinel-2 satellite data, advanced machine learning algorithms, and the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to model and monitor key seawater quality parameters.

Vietnam ramps up pl♔astic waste recycling, reuse, treatment efforts

In 2019, Quang Ninh became one of the first localities in Vietnam to launch a province-wide campaign against plastic waste, mobilising the participation of the political system, the business sector, and the general public. Other localities—such as Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, and Ho Chi Minh City—have also effectively implemented waste-sorting initiatives at source, along with models for plastic-free markets and urban areas.
