Hanoi (VNA) - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has allowed the northernprovince of Quang Ninh to build the Van Don Economic Zone towards a specialadministrative-economic unit.
The province was asked to use local budget and other legal sources for theimplementation of the plan.
The PM also agreed in principle the selectionand hiring of foreign consultants in line with the Law on Bidding and Decree30/2015/ND-CP, dated March 17, 2015.
The Quang Ninh People’s Committee was askedto consider contract value and payment with foreign consultants.
Van Don is a district comprising more than 600 islands. It is approximately175km from Hanoi, 80 km from Hai Phong and 50 km from Ha Long city.
The district encompasses the World Heritagelisted Ha Long Bay. It has a total area of 2,171km2 of which, natural land areais 551km2. Van Don is sparsely populated with a total population of 41,645.With the variety and uniqueness of an archipelago with rich ecosystems andbeautiful beaches, the islands have potential to become a world class maritimetourism destination.
Earlier, Van Don (Quang Ninh), Bac VanPhong (Khanh Hoa) and Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) are set to become specialadministrative-economic units when the draft law is passed by the NationalAssembly (NA), according to the Government Office.
Special administrative-economic units aremagnet for investment, high technology and advanced management mode for theformation of a high growth area that generates more resources and motivation,accelerating the development and economic restructuring of the province, theregion and the country.
