Hanoi (VNA)♏ – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on August 14 that it has started siphoning 1.4 million litres of fuel oil from motor tanker Terranova, which sank off the waters of Bataan, west of Manila, last month.

A PCG officer said divers started siphoning one of the eight tanks, with each containing 175,000 litres of industrial fuel oil (IFO), adding that sealing the seven remaining tanks is ongoing to prepare for underwater siphoning.
However, he did not say when divers will empty all the tanks. On July 25, one crew member died and 16 others were rescued after MTKR Terranova sank. The incident also resulted in a 3.7km oil slick in the busy waterway./.
