The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on May 7 announced a plan to buy more weapons this year, including pistols, machine guns and water vehicles, to beef up its fighting capability at sea.

Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on May7 announced a plan to buy more weapons this year, including pistols, machineguns and water vehicles, to beef up its fighting capability at sea.

The PCG spokesman, Captain Armand Balilo, said the governmentwill spend about 20 million USD on the plan, adding that pistols, assault andsniffer rifles will be bought for the Special Operations Force, machine gunsfor small boat operations, and heavy machine guns for PCG vessels.

He said the acquisition of these weapons will beef up thePCG's capability for maritime security and law enforcement operations.

According to him, PCG has recently ordered 70 sub-machineguns 9 mm worth 200,000 USD, which were delivered on May 7.
