Hanoi (VNA) - Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for Information and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia has a working session with chiefs of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad for the 2023-2026 tenure in Hanoi on March 22.

The meeting took place before they set off for their missions in 48 countries and territories worldwide.

Considering the diplomats’ key role as the fastest and most efficient channel in transmitting domestic information to international friends and overseas Vietnamese communities, Nghia requested they thoroughly grasp and follow the views, policies and guidelines of the Party and State on foreign policy and external information.

It is necessary to be deeply aware of the goal of ensuring Vietnam’s highest interests on the basis of equality, cooperation, mutual benefit and basic principles set by the United Nations Charter and international law, said the official.

He asked the ambassadors and consuls general work to deepen Vietnam's relations with other countries and partners; learn from other nations’ cultural quintessence and development experience; refute distorting allegations of opportunistic and hostile forces; and promote international friends’ support for Vietnam, especially in issues related to the sovereignty over borders, territories, seas, and islands, as well as those on religion, ethnicity, democracy, and human rights, among others.

Nghia required the diplomats to expand their cooperation with international media and press agencies and capitalise on the potential of IT applications and digital media.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Quang Hieu informed that all of the 16 newly appointed ambassadors and consuls general are veteran diplomats in their field with strong political will and good professional qualifications.

He called for further assistance from the commission serving better operations of the Vietnamese diplomatic corps overseas in contributing to the national construction, development and protection./.
