Hanoi (VNA) – General Secretary of the Communist Party of VietnamCentral Committee Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception on September 13 for LaoPrime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith who came to attend the World Economic Forumon ASEAN 2018 (WEF ASEAN).

The Party chief expressed his delight at the special solidarity relationsbetween the two countries, which have been developing in a practical andeffective manner across various sectors.

He spoke highly of the cooperation between the two governments, asking them tojoin hands to direct relevant ministries, agencies, localities, and businessesto carry out the cooperation programmes and agreements inked.

They should work to remove bottlenecks and enhance all-round collaboration – especiallyin economy, trade, and investment – and make meticulous preparations for the 41stmeeting of the Vietnam-Laos Intergovernmental Committee.

Furthermore, he congratulated Laos on the country’s achievements in internal andexternal affairs after two years implementing the resolution adopted at the 10thCongress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

Expressing his sympathy over the losses caused by the collapse of theSepien-Senamnoi hydropower dam in the southern province of Attapeu and the damagecaused by heavy rain and flood in various localities, Party General SecretaryTrong believed that under the leadership of the LPRP, local residents wouldsoon be able to stabilise their lives and recover production.

Thongloun Sisoulith, for his part, complimented Vietnam on the nation’ssuccessful organisation of the WEF ASEAN 2018, and thanked the neighbour for itstimely support for Laos in the recent time, especially material assistancefollowing the dam collapse earlier this year.

He agreed to coordinate with the Vietnamese Government to effectively realiseall signed deals between the two Parties and Governments, as well as gear upfor the upcoming meeting of the intergovernmental committee. –VNA
