Hanoi (VNA)ౠ – The Communist Party USA always attaches importance to the traditional bond with the Communist Party of Vietnam, and supports the Vietnamese Party and State’s policy to promote relations between the two nations, said the visiting Chairman of the Communist Party USA John Bachtell.
John Bachtell made the statement during his meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on April 1, during which he committed to doing his utmost to further promote the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States and people in the coming time.
He stressed that US communists will continue working to contribute to addressing war consequences in Vietnam, especially supporting Agent Orange victims.
The guest said he completely backs Vietnam’s policy of safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity, and solving territorial disputes by peaceful measures, in line with international law.
On the occasion, Bachtell congratulated Vietnam on the success of the 12 th National Party Congress, affirming that achievements made by the country over its 30-years Renewal (Doi Moi) process is a great spiritual encouragement for US communists.
The Vietnamese Party chief briefed the guest on the results of the 12 th National Party Congress, and asserted Vietnam’s policy of giving priority to enhanced relations with traditional friends and political parties of countries worldwide, including the Communist Party USA.
He suggested the two sides work closely to seek specific cooperation possibilities, in order to bolster ties between the two Parties.
On the same day, Bachtell held talks with Hoang Binh Quan, member of the Party Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Affairs, during which they compared their notes of regional and global issues and discussed measures to strengthen cooperation between the two Parties.
During their stay, the US delegates had working sessions with representatives from t he Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education and Theory Council; the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; the Ministry of Labour, Invalid and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Health; the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation, and the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (VAVA).
They also made fact-finding tours of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh province.-VNA
