Party Central Committee discusses ways to improve contingent of intellectuals

Hanoi (VNA) – Members of the Party Central Committee have madeproposals to build a contingent of intellectuals that can meet the requirementsof national development in the new period and in the context of globalisation, at the committee’s 8th plenum held from October 2-8.

Discussing the 15-year implementation of the 10th Party Central Committee’s Resolution No. 27-NQ/TW on building a contingent of intellectualsin the period of stepping up industrialisation and modernisation, they stressedthe importance of issuing a new resolution on this issue.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that theintellectual force will be the pioneer in leading the major transformation ofthe economy as well as the application of scientific and technicalachievements.

Building a contingent of intellectuals must be implemented concertedlywith the revolution in transforming the economic model from resource-basedeconomy to knowledge economy, green economy, and circular economy, Ha stressed.

Some members of the Party Central Committee proposed promotingdecentralisation, self-reliance, and self-responsibility; defining the leading roleof the state in funding scientific research; and continuing to improve the trainingof leading scientists and experts, and increase incentives and allowances forthem.

They also stressed the need to build an integrated centrefor science, education and culture; increase investment in higher education;and carefully listen to recommendations from scientists and intellectuals.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To said it is essentialto attach importance to building mechanisms to attract and encourage Vietnameseintellectuals abroad, especially outstanding talents in leading industries andfields, to return and devote to the homeland./.
