Owner of collapsed illegal gold mine in Hoa Binh arrested
Police in the northern province of Hoa Binh have put Bach Xuan Hung, owner of the illegal gold mine that collapsed on November 4 in which two people have been declared missing, into temporary detention as the investigation continues.

Hoa Binh (VNA) – Police in the northern provinceof Hoa Binh have put Bach Xuan Hung, owner of the illegal gold mine thatcollapsed on November 4 in which two people have been declared missing, into temporarydetention as the investigation continues.
At about 2am on November 4, the mouth of Cot Cocave in Long hamlet of Thanh Nong commune, Lac Thuy district, collapsed andtrapped two miners inside. They remain unaccounted for at present.
As the cave’s ground is lower than thesurrounding area, in addition to the large amount of collapsed soil, mud, androcks, rescuers have not been able to access and locate the victims as of yet.
Vice Chairman of the Hoa Binh provincialPeople’s Committee Nguyen Van Chuong said at a press conference on November 5that all forces and equipment have been mobilised to search for the missingpeople.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Lac Thuy districtPeople’s Committee Quach Tat Liem said that local authorities had alreadypreviously found that Bach Xuan Hung had been illegally mining gold. They had finedhim for this violation, but he intentionally relapsed into this activity.
In early October, the administration of ThanhNong commune began removing tents and equipment at the mining site, however,the work was hampered by a landslide on a nearby road. Taking advantage of thisperiod, Hung resumed ordering gold mining activities at night.
Presenting further details, Deputy Director ofthe Hoa Binh Department of Public Security Col. Nguyen Thanh said that minersworking illegally under Hung’s direction might have buried some equipment tohide the evidence of their violation. Police are considering criminalproceedings in this case.–VNA
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh has asked authorities of the central province of Quang Nam to investigate reports of illegal gold exploitation in the Bong Mieu mine area.
Illegal exploitation of minerals continues in some districts in the northern mountainous province of Phu Tho, including Doan Hung, Thanh Thuy, Thanh Son and Phu Tho town, causing concern among residents.
