OVs in Canada updated on Vietnam’s science-technology policy

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan has updated Vietnamese intellectuals in Canada on changes in Vietnam’s policies on science and technology during his visit to the North American country.
Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan has updated Vietnameseintellectuals in Canada on changes in Vietnam’s policies on science andtechnology during his visit to the North American country.

Speaking before about 80 Vietnamese intellectuals at the VietnamHouse in Ottawa on August 20, the minister underlined the new points inthe revised Law on Science and Technology adopted by the NationalAssembly last year.

They include stipulationson financing mechanism and procedures for science-technology activities.In addition, State-owned enterprises are required to set aside part oftheir pre-tax profits to run a fund for research.

The minister also informed the overseas Vietnamese about theVietnamese Government’s policy to give priority to several highlycompetitive sectors, including rice, vaccine production, mushroomplanting and pangasius breeding.

He hailed theVietnamese intellectuals in Canada for their achievements and expressedwish that they can come back to contribute to national development whenconditions permit.

Minister Quan said his visitto Canada this time aims to seek a cooperation agreement in science andtechnology between Vietnam and Canada.-VNA

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
