Over 910 million VND saved during Earth Hour in Vietnam
About 492,000kWh of electricity, equivalent to 917 million VND (over 39,500 USD), was saved in Vietnam during the Earth Hour, when lights were turned off for one hour from 8:30pm on March 30.

Hanoi (VNA) – About 492,000kWh of electricity,equivalent to 917 million VND (over 39,500 USD), was saved in Vietnam duringthe Earth Hour, when lights were turned off for one hour from 8:30pm on March30.
According to the National Load Dispatch Centre,the saved power this year was higher than that during the same event in 2018,which saved 485,000kWh – equivalent to 834 million VND.
At a light-turning off ceremony in Hanoi onMarch 30 evening, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh said the Earth Hourevents, held in Vietnam for 11 years so far, affirmed the country’s resolve toprotect the environment and respond to climate change.
The 2019 Earth Hour called on all people and businessesto join hands in saving energy to protect energy resources and the environment,she said, expressing her hope that the campaign would attract more attentionfrom authorities, people and the business community who should turn off lightsand unnecessary devices whenever they could to save energy.
The Earth Hour was initiated by the WorldWildlife Fund, aiming to raise public awareness of climate change and energysaving. About 7,000 cities and billions of people in 187 countries andterritories around the world have joined in this campaign.
In Vietnam, various activities were held by manylocalities, businesses and organisations over the past month in response to themovement. The campaign was organised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade withthe support of the Vietnam Electricity (EVN) group, the Hanoi Beer, Alcohol andBeverage Corporation, and the Daikin Air Conditioning JSC.-VNA
The Earth Hour campaign was launched in Ho Chi Minh City on March 17, with a focus on the "Change your green" project, which encourages volunteers to propose initiatives to reduce pollution and the use of plastic and promote waste recycling.
A series of localities nationwide on March 30 responded to the 2019 Earth Hour with a range of practical activities, aiming to call for joint efforts in saving electricity and protecting the earth.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
