Over 1,300 primary students in Gia Lai receive free helmets
More than 1,300 students of three primary schools in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai were presented with helmets under a programme held at Le Hong Phong Primary School in Bau Can commune, Chu Prong district.

The programme was co-organised by the provincial Departments of Transport, andEducation and Training, and the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation.
It forms part of a project that has been carried out in 74 primary schools inDong Nai, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Yen Bai and Thai Nguyenprovinces since 2012, and presented more than 63,000 helmets to local students.
Thanks to the project, the rate of children using helmets in the targetedschools increased from 28.53 percent before the implementation of the projectto 89.22 percent in mid-2019.
In Gia Lai alone, the project presented9,000 helmets to students of 12 primary schools, helping to raise the rate of childrenwearing helmets in these schools from 81 percent to 95 percent betweenSeptember 2018 and March 2019./.
A workshop to review the effectiveness of the project “Helmet for children” in the academic year 2018-2019 was held in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on December 19.
According to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRC), this year’s campaign provided long-term aid for 3,785 individuals and organisations. Support included houses, clean water systems, school meal facilities, books, and livelihood assistance, with a total value of more than 118 billion VND.
The programmes have brought about positive changes to rural infrastructure, comprehensively improved the material and spiritual lives of farmers, and contributed to Vietnam's economic restructuring, said PM Pham Minh Chinh.
The festival highlighted the contributions and robust development of Vietnam's revolutionary press over the past century while promoting press products and showcasing the creativity of Vietnamese journalists.
The programme on sustainable poverty reduction has achieved its annual targets for reducing the poverty rate as assigned by the National Assembly and the Government. It has fulfilled five specific objectives and five five-year goals, and met nine out of 12 indicators related to addressing basic social service shortages.
