Hanoi (VNA) - The Overseas Vietnamese (OV) community will continu🔴e to be counted on to help meet the demand of national development in the new context, utilizing the skills and expertise of more than 6 million Vietnamese living abroad.

The statement was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, who is also chairwoman of the Foreign Ministry’s State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SCOVA), at the closing ceremony of the 4th World Conference of Overseas Vietnamese in Hanoi on August 22. Themed “Overseas Vietnamese Join Hands to Realize the Aspirations for National Development,” at the opening session, forum and four thematic sessions, delegates delivered speeches and discussed issues related to national development and building the great national unity bloc. Summarising the results of the conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang noted that it saw Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attending the opening session and delivering a keynote address at its 2024 forum of OV intellectuals and experts.
The event attracted over 200 representatives from ministries, sectors and various central and local agencies, political and social organisations, universities, business associations, former leaders of the ministry, and Vietnamese ambassadors to Japan, Australia, and Thailand. Notably, the conference welcomed 400 OV delegates from more than 40 countries and territories. The organizing committee received over 100 submissions from domestic agencies and Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, including more than 70 papers from overseas Vietnamese. The papers offered valuable insights on high technology, economy, trade, investment, national unity, legal policies, culture, and the Vietnamese language. During the event, OV businesses and organisations signed 10 memorandums of understanding with domestic agencies, organisations, and enterprises in many fields such as technology transfer, human resources training, and media. According to the Deputy FM, ministries, agencies and localities in Vietnam will make continued efforts to implement and concretize the Party guidelines and State policies as well as directions of high-ranking leaders.
She expressed her hope that the community will continue to uphold the tradition of solidarity, adhere to laws and actively integrate and contribute to the development of their host countries, and maintain their cultural identity and Vietnamese language. She also encouraged them to stay connected with their homeland and continue contributing to the nation's construction and development. In this process, the SCOVA will continue to accompany and support the community, truly embodying their shared home, Hang said. She expressed her confidence that with great attention from the Party and State leaders, the political system, and the unity of both domestic and overseas Vietnamese, OV-related work will continue to develop and achieve further progress. It will serve to create a united, strong, and thriving OV community which join domestic efforts to realize the aspiration for a prosperous and happy nation. On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ certificates of merit and the SCOVA’s commendations were presented to individuals and groups in Vietnam and overseas who have made significant, exemplary contributions to OV-related work.
As scheduled, on August 23, the delegation of overseas Vietnamese will pay a courtesy visit to Party General Secretary and President To Lam, visit the Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, the National Assembly House and several historical and cultural relics in Hanoi./.
