Outgoing Uruguayan ambassador bids farewell to President

Hanoi (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang received outgoing UruguayanAmbassador to Vietnam Carlos Irigaray Santana in Hanoi on November 23, where hecongratulated the diplomat on a successful term in the Southeast Asian country.
While praising efforts made by the ambassador and his colleagues in bolsteringties with Vietnam, President Quang expressed his delight at the comprehensivedevelopment of bilateral relations which was reflected through visits ofhigh-ranking leaders and officials from ministries and sectors of both nations.
The two countries have paid due attention to enhancing cooperation in economyand trade, culture, tourism as well as education and training, he said, addingthat they have worked closely and supported each other at internationalorganisations and multilateral forums, especially the UN and the Forum for EastAsia-Latin America Cooperation.
The President expected that both sides will promote strengths and potentials todeepen cooperative ties while affirmed that Vietnam always attaches muchimportance to developing relations with countries in South America, includingUruguay.
The Vietnamese leader also hoped that with considerable understanding ofVietnam-Uruguay relations, the diplomat will continue his efforts to supportand further promote the sound friendship and multifaceted cooperation betweenthe two countries.
For his part, the Uruguayan diplomat thanked Vietnamese Government, ministries andsectors for helping him fulfill his tasks over the past six years.
In the past six years, the two sides have inked a number of cooperationagreements, creating a foundation for collaboration in various fields, he said,noting that Uruguay wants to complete a deal with the Ministry of Agricultureand Rural Development to bring Uruguayan beef and other farm produce to the Vietnamesemarket.
As part of efforts to increase links between ministries and sectors of Uruguayand Vietnam, Uruguay opened its Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City earlier thisyear, he said.
The ambassador also took the occasion to convey President Tarabe Vazquez’sinvitation to President Tran Dai Quang to visit Uruguay, stressing that theVietnamese President’s first visit to the country is a significant milestone inbilateral relations.
President Quang said he will arrange to pay a state visit to the South Americancountry and invited President Tarabe Vazquez to visit Vietnam.-VNA
Vietnam and Uruguay will work for the early establishment of a joint committee on economic, trade and investment cooperation in accordance with the Framework Agreement on Trade and Investment.
