Ooc Om Boc festival warms up Soc Trang province

The four-day performance attracted the participation of over 500amateur artists and people of Hoa ethnic group in the province,competing in folk songs, traditional music, dancing and costume shows.

This year’s Ooc Om Boc festival, which will run until November 2, alsoincludes a photo exhibition on Vietnam’s ethnic groups, and sports,food and fine arts performances.

A traditional Ghe Ngo (long boat) race starting from October 26 toNovember 2 is another highlight of the festival, capturing the interestof every spectator. Ten female and 30 male teams are participating inthe boat race.

Ooc Om Boc means “eating new young rice”. The Ooc Om Boc Festival is aMoon God worshipping ceremony of the Khmer ethnic people which isorganised on the 15 th day of lunar 10 th month, after the main harvestof the year./.
