Number of firms resuming operations in Hanoi surges 44%

Hanoi (VNA) 🌌– As many as 3,637 businesses in the capital city of Hanoi resumed operations in January, marking a substantial increase of 44% as compared to the previous month, data from the municipal Statistics Office showed.

New business registrations saw a 24.3% decline, with 2,045 new enterprises receiving certificates. The total registered capital for the new establishments dropped by 53.4% to 13.8 trillion VND (546.1 million USD). There were 12,700 businesses temporarily suspending operations, up 21.4%, while 533 companies dissolved completely, representing an 8.9% increase. On a positive note, the city maintained a 100% rate of online business registration processing, ensuring quality and timeliness.
Employment figures remained relatively stable during the Lunar New Year period, which ran from January 25 to February 2, 2025. Industrial enterprises reported a marginal 0.1% month-on-month decrease but a year-on-year increase of 0.4% in labour usage during Tet. State-owned enterprises maintained steady employment levels with a 1.1% annual increase, while private sector employment declined by 4.4% year-on-year. Foreign-invested companies saw a 3.5% workforce increase.
In response to business challenges in the beginning of the year, the local administration has made efforts to handle the employment issue. The city has helped secure jobs for nearly 13,800 people so far this year, up 9.6% from the same time in 2024. It entrusted the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to provide loans worth 219.7 billion VND to create employment for nearly 4,200 people with disadvantaged backgrounds. The Hanoi Employment Service Centre successfully organised 20 job fairs, involving 498 companies and resulting in 1,053 new hires./.
