Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien called for a comprehensive reform of the World Trade Organisation to strengthen its role and adaptability in the changing global economic landscape.

The visit to Vietnam by Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala from May 17-19 has reflected the significant attention of the WTO and its leader to the development of Vietnam since the beginning of its membership in early 2007, Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai has said.

Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said she highly appreciated Vietnam's active role in the WTO, including its participation in important rounds of negotiations and contributions to the reform and improvement of the organisation’s operational efficiency, at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son in Hanoi on May 18.

Ambassador Le Thi Tuyet Mai, head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and other international organisations, has affirmed that Vietnam together with ASEAN member states and other WTO members support and congratulate Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her election as WTO General Director.
