New road near airport set to reduce traffic congestion

HCM City (VNA) – HoChi Minh City’s Department of Transport plans to build a road parallel with CongHoa Street in Tan Binh district in an aim to reduce traffic congestion around TanSon Nhat International Airport.

The six-lane road would be 4.3 kilometres long and run parallelwith Cong Hoa Street, extending from Tran Quoc Hoan Street and connecting to Cong Hoa Street at a section near Truong Chinh Street.

The road, to be built mostly on military land, is expected to costmore than 1.4 trillion VND (61.74 million USD).

The city’s Urban Traffic Management Unit No 1 is working closelywith agencies under the Ministry of Defence on the design of the project.

In addition, a new airport terminal with a capacity of 10 millionpassengers a year will be built on Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Tan Binh districtto ease traffic at and around the country’s busiest airport.

The road will act as an extra access road to the airport terminal,helping to ease traffic congestion on Cong Hoa Street and the Lang ChaCa roundabout.

The city’s Department of Transport has been working on fiveprojects with a total investment of 1.8 trillion VND (79.38 million USD) toreduce traffic jams around the airport area.-VNA
